Amazing hydrosols are the water-soluble components of the lavender plant, obtained during steam distillation, while essential oils are the oil-soluble components of the lavender plant. Hydrosols (water) and essential oils (oil) separate during steam distillation and, while quite different, each has unique properties and uses. Hydrosol is NOT “lavender room spray” and only contains trace amounts of essential oil, so does not really smell like lavender. Hydrosol has a wonderful earthy aroma with natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that are central to its use. Hydrosols are used to freshen and cool the skin i.e. to treat razor or sun burns or as a natural astringent. Hydrosols may be used as a base for cosmetics. Hydrosols may be used as a spray to deoderize linens or as a natural cleaning product, among MANY other uses!
